Fighting malnutrition among Bolivian children

One of the main objectives of the health pillar is to combat malnutrition. On the one hand, it fights malnutrition among Bolivian children, most of whom come from rural areas. On the other hand, the Foundation’s work focuses on raising awareness of the widespread problem of obesity and overweight among children.

+30%

cases of child malnutrition identified in our services per year.

+2.000

cases of malnutrition treated per year.

In Bolivia, 16% of children under 5 years of age are chronically malnourished, while 10.1% are overweight or obese.

These numbers are alarming because child malnutrition constitutes a risk in the emotional and cognitive development of children under 5 years of age. A child with malnutrition, in the long run, will present delays in their growth, in the development of their motor and reasoning functions; which in the future will limit their life options. Child malnutrition is a percutor of cyclical poverty in developing countries such as Bolivia.

Other future problems...

On the other hand, obesity generates other health problems in children such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, among others. In addition to psychological and social insertion problems such as depression, anxiety and low self-esteem.
